The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Captain (Infantry) John Wallace Scott, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 1 April 1865, while serving with Company D, 157th Pennsylvania Infantry, in action at Five Forks, Virginia, for capture of the flag of the 16th South Carolina Infantry, in hand-to-hand combat.
