The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Lieutenant Colonel Amasa Sawyer Tracy, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 19 October 1864, while serving with 2d Vermont Infantry, in action at Cedar Creek, Virginia. Lieutenant Colonel Tracy took command of and led the brigade in the assault on the enemy’s works.
