The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant Daniel G. Caldwell, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 6 February 1865, while serving with Company H, Volunteers 117th Regiment, 13th Pennsylvania Cavalry, in action at Hatcher’s Run, Virginia. In a mounted charge, Sergeant Caldwell dashed into center of the enemy’s line and captured the colors of the 33d North Carolina Infantry.
