    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Captain Henry Ware Lawton, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 3 August 1864, while serving with Company A, 30th Indiana Infantry, in action at Atlanta, Georgia. Captain Lawton led a charge of skirmishers against the enemy’s rifle pits and stubbornly and successfully resisted two determined attacks of the enemy to retake the works.
