    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Wagoner John Schnitzer, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 23 April 1882, while serving with Troop G, 4th U.S. Cavalry, in action at Horseshoe Canyon, New Mexico. Wagoner Schnitzer assisted, under a heavy fire, to rescue a wounded comrade.
