The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Ordinary Seaman Edward Maddin, United States Navy, for distinguished and heroic conduct while serving on board the U.S.S. FRANKLIN at Lisbon, Portugal, 9 January 1876. Displaying gallant conduct, Ordinary Seaman Maddin jumped overboard and rescued one of the crew of that vessel from drowning.
