The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Arthur L. Bump, Colonel, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Preny, France, November 2, 1918. While his regiment was being subjected to an intense enemy bombardment Colonel Bump visited every platoon in the front line and so encouraged and inspired his men by his bravery that they successfully met and repulsed every counterattack made upon them.
