Operation Just Cause began on December 20, 1989. American forces entered Panama to remove dictator Manuel Noriega and secure the Panama Canal. The operation concluded with Noriega’s surrender on January 3, 1990. It paved the way for an elected government and U.S. control over stability efforts in the region.
