The U.S.S. Liberty Incident occurred on June 8, 1967, during the Six-Day War. The U.S. Navy intelligence ship U.S.S. Liberty (AGTR-5) was attacked by Israeli fighter aircraft and torpedo boats in international waters near the Sinai Peninsula. Israel stated the attack was a case of mistaken identity.
