U.S.S. Pueblo Incident

The U.S.S. Pueblo Incident happened on January 23, 1968, when North Korea captured the U.S. Navy intelligence ship USS Pueblo (AGER-2). The seizure took place in waters near the Korean Peninsula, sparking a major Cold War crisis.

North Korean forces boarded the ship, arrested the crew, and towed the Pueblo to Wonsan Harbor. The United States condemned the attack and quickly increased military readiness in the region.

North Korea held the crew for 11 months and used the incident for propaganda and political leverage. The United States secured the crew’s release on December 23, 1968, after intense negotiations.
