Adrian Marechal

  • Distinguished Service Cross

    U.S. Army

    World War I

The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Adrian Marechal, Second Lieutenant, French Army, for extraordinary heroism in action November 3, 1918, at Pouilly, Meuse, France. After two fingers of his right hand had been shot away, a hole shot through his hand, and the trigger of one machine-gun blown off, Sous Lieutenant Marechal continued to fire with his left hand on five monoplace planes which had attacked him over the hostile lines. By doing this he enabled the pilot to bring his damaged machine back to our own lines and brought valuable information of our own and enemy troops. After landing, he made his report before he received medical treatment.
