Albert Anthony Francovich

The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the Navy Cross (Posthumously) to Albert Anthony Francovich (2436082), Aviation Machinist’s Mate First Class, U.S. Navy, for extraordinary heroism in operations against the enemy while serving as a Member of the crew of a Navy Patrol Plane in action against the enemy on 6 September 1942, in the Solomon Islands. Although mortally wounded in an engagement with a Japanese four-engined Seaplane, Aviation Machinist’s Mate Francovich remained at his gun delivering effective fire on the enemy. His outstanding courage and determined skill were at all times inspiring and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
