The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Albert H. Bell, Jr., Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Les Franquettes Farm, France, July 23, 1918. While acting as battalion gas officer, Lieutenant Bell volunteered and took charge of a squad of men, captured a machine gun and eight prisoners. He was killed while attempting to take a second machine gun.
