    The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Alberto Navarrete, Captain, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy as Commander of the 1st Q-boat Squadron of three British-made torpedo boats, attached to the Philippine Army and operating with U.S. Army Forces in the Far East. Captain Navarrete demonstrated gallant action in the defense of Bataan patrolling its eastern coastline during early WWII. In an air-sea battle on 17 January 1942, Q-111 and Q-112 fought 9 Japanese zeros and shot down three of the enemy aircraft. The personal courage and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Navarrete on this occasion have upheld the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
