    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Sergeant Alexander Kelly, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 29 September 1864, while serving with Company F, 6th U.S. Colored Infantry, in action at Chapin’s Farm, Virginia. First Sergeant Kelly gallantly seized the colors, which had fallen near the enemy’s lines of abatis, raised them and rallied the men at a time of confusion and in a place of the greatest danger.
