The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Corporal Alexander Scott, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 9 July 1864, while serving with Company D, 10th Vermont Infantry, in action at Monocacy, Maryland. Under a very heavy fire of the enemy Corporal Scott saved the national flag of his regiment from capture.
