The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Amiel W. Brinkley, Captain, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Beaurevoir, France, October 7, 1918. While commanding his company in action Captain Brinkley was wounded by shell fire, which fractured his jawbone in two places. He continued in command of his company, reorganizing it sufficiently to advance, when he was forced to withdraw because of the loss of speech.
