The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Andre J. Bouchardon (10601419), Sergeant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the Office of Strategic Services, in action against enemy forces from August 1943 through March 1944, in enemy occupied territory. During this period, Sergeant Bouchardon, acting as radio operator to an American officer, was responsible for the transmission of operational information by radio to England. This information permitted him to build up a strong resistance network. Sergeant Bouchardon was severely wounded while carrying out this mission, but managed to escape and return to England. Sergeant Bouchardon’s intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty on this dangerous mission exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
