The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Arthur Olds, Sergeant, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 18th Company, 5th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near St. Etienne, France, October 2 – 3, 1918. After all the runners had been wounded, Sergeant Olds volunteered to act as runner, and made several trips through machine-gun and artillery fire.
