    The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Augustine Silva, Private First Class, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company G, 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in France on 19 November 1944. Private First Class Silva braved hostile fire from a German tank and crawled to within 10 yards and tossed two hand grenades at the tank, killing the gunner and two of the crew. When two others attempted to crawl out, he killed them also.
