    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant Benjamin C. Criswell, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 25 June 1876, while serving with Company B, 7th U.S. Cavalry, in action at Little Big Horn, Montana. Sergeant Criswell rescued the body of Lieutenant Hodgson from within the enemy’s lines; brought up ammunition and encouraged the men in the most exposed positions under heavy fire.
