The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Colonel (Infantry) Benjamin Franklin Tracy, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 6 May 1864, while serving with 109th New York Infantry, in action during the Wilderness Campaign, Virginia. Colonel Tracy seized the colors and led the regiment when other regiments had retired and then reformed his line and held it.
