Brown LEE Porter
Silver Star
U.S. Army
World War II
Brown L. Porter, Technician Fifth Grade, Battery A, 1st Field Artillery Observation Battalion. For gallantry in action. On 25 December 1942, at Medjes-El-Bab, Tunisia, during an evacuation by our forces and after our infantry had withdrawn to a line behind the position previously occupied by his organization, T/5th Gr. Porter, did, without regard for his own safety, beyond the ordinary call of duty and without regard for his own equipment and clothing in bitter weather, proceed forward of our lines under fire of the enemy in order to recover a sound microphone emplaced in an isolated position near the enemy front line. By this action he prevented secret equipment from falling into enemy hands and saved it for the use of United States forces, a matter of utmost importance at that time. This action exemplifys the highest traditions of the service and is deserving of the highest praise.
