    The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Bruce Harris Mills, Private, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 78th Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action at Blanc Mont, France, October 3, 1918. When the advance of their company was held up by enfilading fire from a hostile machine-gun nest, Private Mills, with three other soldiers, volunteered and made a flank attack on the nest with bombs and rifles, killing three members of the crews and capturing twenty-five others together with three machine guns.

Mills (MCSN: 109552), United States Marine Corps, is cited by the Commanding General, SECOND Division, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private Mills distinguished himself while serving with the 78th Company, Sixth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces at Blanc Mont, France, 1 – 10 October 1918.
