Carleton L. Summers

The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the Silver Star Medal to Carleton L. Summers, Private First Class, U.S. Army, for gallantry in action on 14 January 1945, in Belgium. Private Summers distinguished himself during an enemy counterattack which was led by enemy tanks and which threatened to cause a withdrawal of his comrades. Private Summers advanced aggressively to a spot in front of friendly lines and delivered accurate bazooka fire at the enemy tanks which crippled two of them. With their supporting tanks disabled, the enemy counterattackers were forced to withdraw.
