By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved 9 July 1918, (Bulletin 43, War Department, 1918).
The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the Silver Star Medal to Private First Class Carlos S. Kakar, (39289372), Infantry, United States Army. For gallantry in action at Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 8 February 1945. In the attack at the Paco Railroad Station a Japanese force operating three machine guns was by-passed. One of our machine guns sections was ordered to engage this opposition but found that only two of the enemy guns machine gun and rifle fire to a spot where he was able to bring effective fire on the third weapon so that its crew could not employ it successfully.
