The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Major Charles C. Davis, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 27 June 1863, while serving with 7th Pennsylvania Cavalry, in action at Shelbyville, Tennessee. Major Davis led one of the most desperate and successful charges of the war.
