    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Lieutenant Charles H. Clausen, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 12 May 1864, while serving with Company H, 61st Pennsylvania Infantry, in action at Spotsylvania, Virginia. Although severely wounded, First Lieutenant Clausen led the regiment against the enemy, under a terrific fire, and saved a battery from capture.
