The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Charles W. Brison, Mechanic, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Cunel, France, October 12, 1918. While his company was occupying a position on the forward slope of a hill, subjected to incessant sniping, machine-gun and artillery fire, Mechanic Brison voluntarily covered a large area searching for the wounded and administering first aid to them. He also carried important messages between the different units of his company.
