The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Christian Gross, First Lieutenant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Uspanka, Siberia, June 11, 1919. While leading a combat patrol Lieutenant Gross was fired on by an unknown force of enemy; he left his patrol, after giving them orders to fire on the enemy, and advanced through a fire-swept zone to an advantageous position on a hill from which he assisted greatly in forcing the retirement of the enemy.
