    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant (Mad Bear) Co-Rux-Te-Chod-Ish, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 8 July 1869, while serving as an Indian Scout in action at Republican River, Kansas. Sergeant Co-Rux-Te-Chod-Ish ran out from the command in pursuit of a dismounted Indian; was shot down and badly wounded by a bullet from his own command.
