Curtis F. Wyman
Silver Star
U.S. Army
Vietnam War
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Curtis F. Wyman, United States Army, for gallantry in action in the Republic of Vietnam on 10 June 1970. Lieutenant Wyman distinguished himself while serving as an artillery forward observer for Company D, 2d Battalion (Airmobile), 327th Infantry, securing Fire Support Base Tomahawk, Republic of Vietnam. When a large and well-trained sapper force attempted to penetrate the perimeter, Lieutenant Wyman, repeatedly subjecting himself to intense enemy fire, maneuvered from bunker to bunker to assist in directing the perimeter defense and encourage the men to maintain a suppressive volume of fire on the enemy. He was also responsible for calling in and properly adjusting artillery fire while under intense enemy small arms, rocket propelled grenade, and mortar fire. His action prevented heavy casualties and inspired the defenders to successfully repulse the enemy attack. Lieutenant Wyman’s personal bravery and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
By direction of the President of the United States under provisions of the Act of Congress approved 25 July 1963.
