The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Dewey S. Brown, Sergeant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Bellicourt, France, September 29, 1918. Wounded twice at the start of an advance, he remained in command of his platoon, carrying it through to a position near its objective, when he was wounded a third time and forced to retire. His personal courage was an inspiration to the men under him.
