Siberian Intervention
General Orders No. 133, W.D., 1919
The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Edward F. Evans, Cook, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action in the vicinity of Kraefski, Siberia, June 12, 1919. When his detachment was attacked by a superior force of the enemy Cook Evans took up a position alone on the thatched roof of a shed on the flank of his platoon, from which, owing to his calmness and excellent marksmanship, he successfully broke up a flanking party of the enemy by killing and wounding seven of them, thus preventing his detachment from being cut off or from suffering serious casualties.
