    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Second Lieutenant Elliott Malloy Norton, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 6 April 1865, while serving with Company H, 6th Michigan Cavalry, in action at Deatonsville (Sailor’s Creek), Virginia. Second Lieutenant Norton rushed ahead of his column and captured the flag of the 44th Tennessee Infantry (Confederate States of America).
