The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Erie C. Hufstedler, Private, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 79th Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action during the occupation of Bouresches, France, June 6, 1918. After being severely wounded, Private Hufstedler refused to go to the rear, but remained and assisted with the wounded, displaying great self- sacrifice and devotion to duty.
