The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Floyd A. Brooks, Sergeant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Champagne, France, October 13, 1918. After his lieutenant was seriously wounded, Sergeant Brooks took command of the platoon and led it with marked ability for seven days. Later in the Argonne-Meuse engagement, he personally led his platoon against a machine gun which was holding up the advance of our line and destroyed the gun.
