    The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Frank A. Vial, Corporal, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 83d Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action in the Bois-de-Belleau, France, on June 8, 1918. Although exposed to fire constantly from machine-guns, Corporal Vial repeatedly carried messages from one post to another. He particularly distinguished himself for bravery by voluntarily passing through a machine-gun barrage to guide a detachment to its position.
