The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Frank J. Burbank, Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action west of Bouresches, France, July 20, 1918. After his company had suffered severe casualties Lieutenant Burbank reorganized his company under heavy machine-gun and artillery fire. He then led his organization in the attack on Hill 190. He was the first to enter the enemy trenches and personally captured a machine gun, with its crew. Due to his gallantry, the objective was reached and held.
