The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Frank J. Simon, Sergeant, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 76th Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near St. Georges, France, November 1, 1918. Advancing with two other men alongside of a tank, in front of his company, Sergeant Simon encountered terrific enemy fire. After cutting their way through the wire the men in the tank and the men following Sergeant Simon were killed and he was wounded. Undaunted by his wound, he continued on alone, encountering and capturing six of the crew of the enemy machine- gun in a dugout.
