The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to George Berkley, First Sergeant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Cunel, France, October 14 – 18, 1918. After all the officers of his company had been killed or wounded, Sergeant Berkley successfully led his men until compelled, through wounds, to leave the field.
