    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private George Crawford Platt, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 3 July 1863, while serving with Troop H, 6th U.S. Cavalry, in action at Fairfield (Gettysburg Battle), Pennsylvania. Private Platt seized the regimental flag upon the death of the standard bearer in a hand-to-hand fight and prevented it from falling into the hands of the enemy.
