    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private George Dallas Sidman, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 27 June 1862, while serving with Company C, 16th Michigan Infantry, in action at Gaines Mill, Virginia, for distinguished bravery in battle. Private Sidman rallied his comrades to charge vastly superior force until wounded in the hip. He was a 16-year-old drummer.
