The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to George H. Morgan, Private, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Suippes, France, July 15, 1918. While on duty as a runner, carrying a message to his battery, Private Morgan fell wounded before reaching his destination, but in spite of suffering severe pain he crawled the remainder of the distance on his hands and knees and delivered the message.

The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to George H. Morgan, First Lieutenant (Infantry), U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 14 April 1945. First Lieutenant Morgan’s intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 8th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
