    The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to George L. Brown, Sergeant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Montfaucon, France, September 27, 1918. Corporal Brown crawled ahead of his platoon, located and killed a sniper who had wounded him and several others. Although seriously wounded, he remained in command of his platoon until he was ordered to the rear, when he insisted on going back without assistance, though he was so weak he could hardly walk.
