The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private George Washington Lucas, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 25 July 1864, while serving with Company C, 3d Missouri Cavalry, in action at Benton, Arkansas. Private Lucas pursued and killed Confederate Brigadier General George M. Holt, Arkansas Militia, capturing his arms and horse.
