    The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to George William Budde, Private, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 17th Company, 5th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near Villemontry, France, November 11, 1918. Upon his own initiative, Private Budde advanced in front of the line to determine whether a certain machine-gun position was hostile or friendly, and was killed by a machine-gun bullet.
