The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress on July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star medal to Technician Fifth Grade Harold E. Isaacson, Infantry, Third Battalion, 409th Infantry Regiment. For gallantry in action. During the twilight hours of 23 November 1944, in the vicinity of ***, France, Technician Fifth Grade Isaacson, a communications wireman, was pinned down by an intense enemy mortar barrage. Fully aware that communication lines were out between the Battalion Command Post and a company in the forward attack position, Technician Fifth Grade Isaacson on his own initiative left his protective cover to make necessary repairs. Realizing his life was endangered but without heed he fearlessly continued on his mission. While pursuing his mission he advanced approximately 50 yards from shelter when a mortar shell landed directly in his path. Mortally wounded, Technician Fifth Grade Isaacson was carried to a house where medical aid was administered, but he died shortly thereafter. Technician Fifth Grade Isaacson’s heroic efforts were in accordance with the highest tradition of the military service.
