Under the provisions of Army Regulations 600-45, as amended, a Silver Star Medal is awarded to: Harold G. Neuenswander 39574168 MD, Technician Fifth Grade (then Private First Class), Medical Detachment, 157th Infantry Regiment, for gallantry in action on 29 September 1944 near Rambervillers, France. When enemy artillery fire inflicted a number of casualties on his battalion during an attack, Private First Class Neuenswander moved from his position through the fire to where the wounded lay. He worked his way from man to man, rendering first aid and carrying the most seriously wounded to the shelter of a nearby wall. While engaged in this work he was killed by German fire. Private First Class Neuenswander’s gallant conduct saved the lives of several wounded soldiers and is in keeping with the high traditions of the Army of the United States.
