The Navy Cross is awarded to Chief Boatswain’s Mate Harry L. Gibson, U.S. Navy, for heroic conduct following the sinking of the Jacob Jones on December 6, 1917. Chief Boatswain’s Mate Gibson displayed cheerful conduct and was an inspiration to the rest of the crew.
